Unitree G1 Basic – A Compact Humanoid Robot for Getting Started with Robotics

The Unitree G1 Basic provides a practical entry point into humanoid robotics, combining a compact design with a powerful core feature set. With a height of 1,320 mm, a weight of approximately 35 kg including the battery, and a foldable structure, the robot is easy to transport, store, and deploy at events or in training environments. The platform features 23 degrees of freedom, including 6 per leg, 5 per arm, and 1 degree of freedom in the waist. This enables smooth motion sequences, dynamic walking capabilities, and realistic demonstrations. The G1 Basic is particularly well suited for showrooms, trade shows, educational institutions, and companies looking to gain initial experience with humanoid robotics and evaluate potential applications.

Advanced Sensors and Computing Power for Autonomous Capabilities

For perception and navigation tasks, the Unitree G1 Basic combines multiple sensor systems within an integrated platform. Standard equipment includes a depth camera, a 3D LiDAR system, a four-microphone array, and a speaker. These components are complemented by a powerful 8-core CPU that executes motion control and AI-based functions directly on the robot. Unitree also promotes the platform with technologies such as imitation learning and reinforcement learning. WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 provide wireless connectivity. This combination of sensors, computing performance, and communication capabilities makes the G1 Basic particularly suitable for demonstrating autonomous functions, conducting research projects using pre-existing capabilities, and exploring advanced human-robot interaction scenarios.

Unitree G1 Basic – High-Performance Actuation for Dynamic Motion

The mechanical foundation of the Unitree G1 Basic has been engineered for dynamic movement and precise motion control. The robot utilizes permanent magnet synchronous motors featuring low-inertia internal rotor technology, enabling rapid response times and efficient heat dissipation. Industrial-grade cross-roller bearings support precise joint guidance and high load capacity across the motion axes. Dual-encoder systems continuously monitor joint positions and provide the basis for accurate motion control. The design allows for a wide range of movement in the hips, knees, and waist, supporting natural motion patterns during walking, turning, and standing up. This configuration makes the G1 Basic a powerful platform for demonstrating humanoid motion, robotics training, and technology evaluation.

Differences Between the Unitree G1 Basic and G1 Basic EDU

Mechanically, the Unitree G1 Basic and G1 Basic EDU are based on the same G1 platform, featuring identical core dimensions, 23 degrees of freedom in the base configuration, and comparable sensors and actuator technology. The key difference lies in their intended use and expandability. While the G1 Basic is primarily designed for demonstrations, education, and entry-level humanoid robotics, the G1 Basic EDU is targeted at universities, research institutions, and developers. Depending on the configuration, additional degrees of freedom, dexterous gripper hands, optional wrist axes, expanded SDK and API access, and more powerful computing modules can be integrated. As a result, the G1 Basic EDU is particularly well suited for ROS and ROS 2 projects, AI research, embodied AI, secondary development, and advanced research applications involving custom software development.
