In the video, which was recorded at HMI 2024, an igus Rebel Cobot is presented mounted upside down. The robot performs an impressive application in which it guides a scanner around a miniature model of Cologne Cathedral.

The robot carefully and precisely moves the scanner around the model to ensure that all details are captured. During this movement, the scanner creates a 3D image of the miniature Cologne Cathedral. This 3D image can then be used for various purposes, such as inspection, creating replicas or digital archiving.

To summarise, this is a technical video that demonstrates the capabilities of the igus Rebel cobot to perform complex tasks such as scanning a three-dimensional object. It also shows the many possible applications of cobots in different industrial sectors.

In this application test for a customer, the cleaning of vehicles was to be automated with the help of a robot so that the two employees used for this purpose could pursue other activities and costs could be saved.

The customer's request could be realised with a line gantry robot and an Apiro gearbox mounted on it, which is responsible for the rotary movement of the compressed air gun and thus represents an additional axis. Thanks to this automation solution, two employees could be saved for this activity, resulting in a quick payback time for the investment.

Our Low-Cost Complete Solution for Reliable Quality Control is a crucial aspect for manufacturing and processing companies to minimize costs associated with personnel and error prevention. To meet this need, igus® has developed a cost-effective complete system that enables automated testing of circuit boards. The system consists of an overhead-mounted ReBel® 6-axis robot, which is installed in a robot cell. To protect the cables, they were routed through a triflex® energy chain system. The circuit boards are placed on a disc, under which there is a wave gear - the same gear that is also used for the axes of the robot. The quality control is carried out by a camera system from SICK with a sensor for image analysis.

The students of the University of Ljubljana have automated a table football game in their project called "KiberzBall". Here, human players can play directly against or with computer-controlled players.

To be able to automate the movement of the computer-controlled player, the system had to be equipped with image processing and with an actuator system for linear and rotary movements. Here the team decided on igus linear axes.

The students were looking for a compact solution with enough space and freedom of movement for the small servo motor responsible for the kick movement, and with as little frictional resistance as possible to maximize the achievable accelerations. The Eco axis from drylin met all these requirements. It was mounted on the side so that the drive motor could be placed underneath. A small footprint thanks to a compact arrangement. Plastic adapters were developed and printed to hold the axis in position and to attach the additional servo motor to the trolley. An additional belt tensioner was developed to increase belt tension and ensure stable operation at different accelerations.

The drylin eco linear axis from igus also impressed with its low price and lower frictional resistance. This made it possible to achieve a higher acceleration of the rod for the soccer players.

Also robots like to jam as the robot built by feinarbyte shows. The company developed a system for the automatic testing of drum cymbals. The important thing here is that the cymbal is played with uniform striking power at defined points. This is the only way to obtain comparable striking angles and thus comparable sound recordings.

In order for this to succeed, the contours of all pools are optically measured at the beginning. A sound recording is then automatically made for each attack. The audio samples are made available to Thomann customers in a web application in the store. This allows the customer to listen to and compare the sound before buying the cymbal. It can be assumed that customers are more willing to buy instruments online if they are given a good opportunity to test and compare the products. This may also minimize returns, which saves costs and protects the environment.

In order for customers to be able to access many audio samples for their comparison, it is necessary to digitize a large number of cymbals. The number of different cymbals multiplied by the attack positions and the different impact hardnesses results in a relatively large recording effort. In addition, even experienced musicians are not able to hit exactly comparable positions with exactly the same impact over and over again. The machine from feinarbyte masters these challenges.

In automation technology, 3-finger grippers are of great importance due to their adaptability and precision when handling a wide variety of objects. A recent customer test examined the performance of such a gripper when picking up components from a fixture and assembling them.

The 3-finger gripper demonstrated high precision in picking and reliable assembly of the components. The speed of the process and the low error rate confirmed the suitability of the gripper for production use.

The test underlined the advantages of the 3-finger gripper in terms of flexibility and reliability, making it a valuable component for automated assembly processes. The results support the integration of the gripper into existing and new production lines to further increase efficiency.
